Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan is said to be teaming up with HBO to create a limited series surrounding the cult leader Jim Jones and the mass suicides in Guyana 1978.
The new drama entitled Raven is based on Tim Reiterman’s 1982 book, Raven: The Untold Story of Jim Jones and His People.
Reiterman was one of several journalists, relatives and aides who went with Congressman Leo Ryan on the journey to Guyana to understand Jonestown. Congressman Leo Ryan and three other journalists were brutally murdered on the airstrip after they visited the People’s Temple.
It was shortly after this tragedy that Jim Jones instructed his followers too commit suicide in what became one of the most haunting devastation of the 70s.
The mini-series won’t be the first interpretation of Jonestown, with The Sacarament drawing inspiration from the cult leader.
Vince Gilligan has been working on Battle Creek and Better call Saul since the ending of Breaking Bad in 2013. Octavia Spencer whom currently is in possession of the rights to the book will be an executive producer as well.
