Mary Berry is officially standing down from the Great Britsh Bakeoff. In news which sent shockwaves through the British public, the food writer/presenter/national institution will officially step down from her role as judge on the Great British Bakeoff at the end of this season.
One of half of the judging panel for the past six years Mary Berry won legions of fans for her constructive criticism and love of gin. In a statement Berry lamented her departure:
“My decision to stay with the BBC is out of loyalty to them, as they have nurtured me, and the show, that was a unique and brilliant format from day one.
“I am just sad for the audience who may not be ready for change, I hope they understand my decision.
“I wish the programme, crew and future bakers every possible success and I am so very sad not to be a part of it. Farewell to soggy bottoms.”
The news follows the departure of Mel and Sue and the shows move to Channel 4 after the creators refused to extend the contract with the BBC. Although Paul Hollywood will be following the Bake Off to it’s new channel
