As we get closer and closer to the Gilmore Girls Revival the most analysis of the series comes out. Was it feminist tv before feminist TV was a thing? Was Rory’s childhood glossed over? Where was Mr.Kim for seven seasons he was mentioned but never on screen, come on just let me know he’s an actual person and not just the name of an antique lamp…whatever…
But one of the main conversations has always been about Team Dean, Team Jess or Team Logan. Before a time of shipping wars and werewolves v vampires we were all way too invested in Rory Gilmore’s love life. There was Dean, the adorable page-boy haired first boyfriend of Rory Gilmore turned young married adulterer. Jess was the bad-boy intellectual who didn’t even say goodbye when he left to his credit, managed to straighten out his life.
And then there’s Logan, who after initially starting out as a poor little rich boy managed to become Rory’s longest relationship. And in a new interview Amy Sherman-Palladino she commented on the markers of Logan’s character:
“We wanted Rory to date her father…Every girl has a father issue, and Logan was Christopher. Logan was charming, smart, and not quite the dependable soul that you need. Or, at that time, was not the great dependable soul.”
Not something any of us wanted to ever think about that comparison but it made sense when you think about it.Logan and Christopher have the same charming personality, rich upbringing and ultimately a good heart regardless of stupid decision…still it’s rather icky.
