As Amber Hear get’s ready to dominate 2017 with roles in indie movies and blockbusters, her casting as Mera in the Justice League spin-off (or sequel I don’t really know) Aquaman has been the one catching the most headlines.
Mera is the iconic comic book character primarily featured within Aquaman comics as the Queen of the Sea, a fiery and contentious character, she’s definitely a step away from the average Hollywood damsel in distress.
And it’s looking like her relationship with Aquaman won’t be running smoothly.
Talking with Bustle. com James Wan, Aquaman director said
“It starts off initially with [Aquaman & Mera] not quite clicking with each other.. the story progresses as they learn to try and work together, they get closer and closer. I think those stories are always such a great place for a filmmaker like myself to have fun with my actors.”
The Aquaman film will be following the events of the soon to be released Justice League movie which Amber Heard will also be having a role. But things won’t be running smoothly…
“Amber’s character is super strong, she’s very powerful as well.” Wan explained. ” You don’t wanna mess with her. I think Amber will bring that sense of strength, but at the same time, we also want someone who has a sort of feminine quality to her as well. She’s a bit of a contrast to Momoa, who’s more of a muscular machine almost.”
Aquaman is scheduled for a July 2017 release date.
This is the story of a murder. It hasn’t happened yet. But it will. (It had better.) I know the murderer, I know the murderee. I know the time, I know the place. I know the motive (her motive) and I know the means. I know who will be the foil, the fool, the poor foal, also utterly destroyed. I couldn’t stop them, I don’t think, even if I wanted to. The girl will die. It’s what she always wanted.
Two of our favourite young stars will be appearing in an adaptation of Martin Amis’ “London Fields” a darkly comedic murder mystery set at the turn of the millennium. Billy Bob Thornton plays Samson Young a failed nonfiction writer with perpetual writer’s block get’s drawn into a tangled web in England as he befriends a young woman who is currently planning out her own murder.
Amber Heard is starring as Nicola Six, an anti-heroine, clairvoyant who has a premonition of her impending death and Cara Delevingne will be playing Kath Talent the abused wife of Jim Strugess character. A cast full of emerging British/American talent this will definitely be a talked about movie.
The revival of Aquaman didn’t exactly set pulses racing until his reveal in the critically panned Batman v Superman. Seeing Jason Momoa playing Arthur Curry immediately elevated the normally ‘twee’ looking superhero to new heights (or new depths if we’re making a deep sea pun.)
The release date won’t be confirmed official for a while but reports have said it’s going to be a summer 2018. The new movie will be based on Geoff John’s Aquaman reboot The Trench (The New 52).
In the comic Arthur Curry is a well-known superhero who is often mocked and not taken seriously due to his powers. Married to the fiery Mera, a mermaid who doesn’t take shit from anyone there’s enough jokes and humour to revive even the most intense DC story.
The script is apparently undergoing rewrites at the moment and Will Beall (Gangster Squad) will be heading up the screenplay.
There has so far only been three confirmations for casting including Jason Momoa as Aquaman and Amber Heard will be playing his wife Meera and Willem Dafoe will be playing Nuidis Vulko. And despite fan rumours James Wan confirmed that Michael K. Williams will not be playing Black Manta in the movie.
Amalfi Coast off the Salerno Gulf in southern Italy is allegedly being used as the underwater castle after featuring on Mr. Was instagram.
Fingers crossed this one is better than Batman v Superman
And in news to bum you out, fans probably not of DC- but rather of Mr.Depp have launched a petition to get Amber Heard recast as Mera in the upcoming Justice League movie.
Amber Heard’s controversial divorce to Johnny Depp has sparked hate and vitriol on the internet as everything from the videos she released to donating her divorce settlement has managed to elicit think-pieces a plenty.
With over a thousand signatures and no response from the directors, it looks like Heard has beaten the trolls this time as she moved to London in recent weeks and began training for the 2017 film.
